Why You Should Skip Resolutions and Write a Letter to the Universe Instead.

,

Have you ever written a letter to the universe? If you haven’t…you should.

When 2022 started I did not make any resolutions. Instead I wrote a letter. You could address it to yourself, God, whatever you believe or want to do. I decided to addressed it to the universe.

I had heard that you should put the energy of what you want into the universe and it would send it to you. Act as if you already have everything you want. So, I figured, why not?

I wrote as if the year had already passed. I was so excited to think about all the things I wanted. A new job, working from home. A new house that my husband and I got to design ourselves. I went into detail about all the amazing things that happened that year.

I wrote the letter, put it away and didn’t think about it again for a few months. It wasn’t until I was rummaging through my desk looking for work notes, that I stumbled upon my crumbled up letter. I read over the letter and thought about what I would have to do, to have all the things I had written.

First of all, I would have to actually apply for new positions to have my work from home job. I decided to check on LinkedIn. It just so happens I had messages from that week from several recruiters. I figured, might as well. I responded to each of them. Within a week I had 4 interviews lined up.

Not long after, on our 5 year anniversary, my husband and I drove past a new development in a neighborhood not far from our current home. We said it looked nice and we wouldn’t mind living there.

A month later I was accepting a job with a new company. I was working from home full time. The following month we scheduled a tour of the development we had passed before. By the end of 2022 we had a contract in place and broken ground on our new home.

I wrote another letter in 2023. We had moved into our home. The kids were settled in and we had added a new furry addition to the family.

We closed on our house the day before our 6 year wedding anniversary. In the fall my husband surprised me with a mini dachshund, the addition I had been longing for since the loss of my chihuahua.

Was this all because of my letters to the universe? Maybe. Or maybe seeing the words written out motivated me to push myself. To leave my comfort zone and call my shot. Ask for what I wanted career wise. To take a leap and go after our dream home and life we wanted for our family.

Either way, I loved the practice and I plan to continue to write a letter each year.
