Autism is Not a Tragedy

,

✨ What the autism (and all special needs) community needs is understanding, education, and support.

Should we try to understand underlying causes? Of course.

Is there one common denominator? No.

Does smoking cause lung cancer? Sometimes. Can people get it who never smoked? Yes.

Is Hepatitis B sexually transmitted? Sure. Can it spread other ways? Absolutely.

Do the Amish vaccinate? No. Is autism present in the Amish community? YES.

💡 Autism is NOT one-size-fits-all.

💡 Autism is NOT a disease.

💡 Autism is NOT a tragedy.

💡 Autism does NOT destroy families.

Losing a child to cancer—that’s devastation.

Children torn from their families and forced to face immigration court alone—that destroys families.

Our child has not destroyed our family. He has made it BETTER. Fuller. More compassionate. He is here with us. Not in a hospital bed. Not in a deportation center. He is home. He is loved. And he has made our family whole. 💙

Research into autism is important—not to “cure” it, but to better understand how to SUPPORT autistic people. Autism is lifelong. It doesn’t need erasing. It needs embracing.
