Imagine what an amazing place this world would be if we were all the person our pets think we are. If we treated each other the way our pets treat us. Loved unconditionally and always forgiving, always there when needed.

Last summer, I lost my best friend. For the last six months the only people I talked to about it were my husband and very close friends. I didn’t post it on social media. I honestly have had no words to describe how I was feeling.

I have had dogs my whole life. I loved them all so much. I miss them all so much. All dogs are different, with their own personalities. But there is always that one. Your dog. Your soulmate in puppy form.

Mine was a sassy, blonde chihuahua, that was my best friend for the last 13 1/2 years. She passed quietly in her bed, snuggled in her blanket. My heart was broken. It was a pain I can’t describe and sadness I’ve never felt. And I’ve been through a lot in life. She was with me through some of the darkest times of my life. And the best times. Through all of it, she loved me, comforted me, listened to me, and was always down for a nap.

If you’re not a dog person I think you need to reconsider. Or maybe there is something wrong with you. Sorry not. sorry. Unless you’re allergic. Then I am actually sorry.

But seriously. I think everyone should love a dog. Here are just a few reasons.

•They love you unconditionally

•You always have a best friend

•They are great at cuddles

•Studies show they increase happiness and decrease stress

•They are great coworkers if you work from home

•They make naps even better

•You can tell them anything and they’ll never share your secrets

•Even when you’re at rock bottom they still think you’re the best

•They teach you how to love unconditionally

I could keep going and list a million reasons you should have a dog. I could give even more on why my dog was the best. But I’ll leave it up to you to decide.
