My Top 5 Audible Books in 2020

,

I never thought I would enjoy audiobooks, then this year I decided I wanted to give them a try.

I love listening to autobiographies, memoirs and self-improvement books. A lot of times the books are read by the authors. For instance I listened to Jessica Simpson’s “Open Book” and I felt like she was talking directly to me. Hearing her voice and the emotion made it so much more moving.

Here are smy top 5 listens from the past year that I think every woman should hear!

The Body Book

This past year I started to really dive into being healthier and learning more about what I put into my body and how I feel. I love Cameron Diaz, so when I realized she had created this book I really wanted to see what it was all about. I loved all the information and the science to back it up.

The Longevity Book

Another one by Cameron Diaz. This book focuses specifically on women and the aging process. You get details on how your body ages, ways to improve the aging process and a deeper dive into the emotional part of aging. It was incredibly eye opening and I plan to listen to it again to catch details I might have missed the first time around.

Girl, Stop Apologizing

If you read or listened to Girl, Wash Your Face, you are going to love this one by Rachel Hollis. This one focuses more on the excuses and apologies women tend to make throughout their lives. For some reason, many women feel the need to apologies when they don’t want to do something or make excuses when they do want to do something. For instance, you want to start a hobby and make excuses to talk yourself out of it. You have kids and a family that need your time and attention and giving up time for a hobby would be selfish. Or you are asked to be part of your kids PTA and really do not want to and feel the need to make an excuse not to and then apologize. Why? You should be able to take time for yourself and have a hobby. If you don’t want to do something, you should be able to say no and not feel guilty about it.

Mastering Your Mean Girl

Melissa Ambrosini is so refreshing and inspiring. This is an amazing listen for anyone feeling lost or in need of motivation. She talks about that voice in your head that holds you back. The one that makes you feel like you are not enough. She helps explain her journey on quieting that voice and finding inner peace and confidence. I actually started listening to her podcast this year as well. She is such a positive light and I love listening in each week.

Yes, Please

I LOVE Amy Poehler and I loved this book! I think she is hilarious and Parks and Recs is one of my favorite series of all time. Amy gives you some insight on her life and offers life lessons. I love the fact that she openly states she will not be commenting on her divorce because it is no one’s business. So, many people think celebrities owe us insight into their lives and forget that are actual people, dealing with hard life changes/choices like everyone else. It reminds you that YOU do not owe anyone an explanation. In the world of social media we feel the need to share so many aspects of our lives that we sometimes forget it is ok to keep things personal and to yourself.
